Broome Total Body Photography

Track changes in your moles with advanced full-body mole mapping for earlier skin cancer detection.

Peace of mind through complete skin monitoring

To strengthen early detection and long-term monitoring of moles and skin lesions, our Broome skin clinic now offers Total Body Photography (TBP). TBP complements our existing skin cancer checks and digital imaging services so your doctor can accurately track even small changes over time – helping catch potential melanomas earlier.

What is Total Body Photography (TBP)?

Total Body Photography (also called full-body mole mapping or TBI) is a professional imaging process that captures high-quality, head-to-toe photographs of your skin. These clinical-grade images create a permanent visual record of your moles and skin markings, making it far easier to detect subtle changes at future visits than with memory or notes alone.

Who should consider TBP?

TBP is especially helpful for people at higher risk of skin cancer. You may benefit from TBP if you have one or more of the following:

More than 50 moles (many common naevi)

Personal history of skin cancer or melanoma

Family history of melanoma or skin cancer

Large moles (over 1 cm) or numerous atypical moles

Significant sun damage or lifetime sun exposure (including sunbeds)

A weakened immune system or use of immunosuppressant medication

Benefits of TBP

TBP offers several practical advantages for mole scanning and ongoing skin surveillance:

Complete mapping

Images every visible area so nothing is missed.

Better comparison

Store images securely and compare visits side-by-side to spot small changes.

Faster appointments

The imaging process is efficient - typically under 15 minutes for the photography portion. This is followed by a 15 minute Doctors consultation.

Reassurance

Regular photographic monitoring reduces unnecessary procedures by helping clinicians decide which lesions truly need further investigation.

Integrated pathway

TBP works alongside dermoscopy, clinical review and (if needed) biopsy or removal.

Smarter skin checks

Mole scanning with advanced mapping

At Broome Medical Clinic we pair TBP with our clinical assessments and digital dermoscopy so your skin check is more precise. Your photographs can be mapped to a virtual body map and used alongside specialist review to track moles over time. This approach – often called mole scanning or mole mapping – strengthens early-detection strategies used in modern skin clinics.

What to expect

TBP - step by step

A trained technician or clinician will explain the TBP process and answer any questions.

You’ll be taken to a private room to change.

We’ll guide you through a series of standard poses to ensure full-body coverage while you remain comfortable and covered where possible.

Images are securely added to your medical record for your doctor to review and compare at future visits.

If a suspicious lesion is identified, your doctor may take a close-up dermatoscopic image (dermoscopy) or arrange biopsy/treatment as required.

After your session - what’s next

Perform a self-skin check every 1–3 months so you know your own skin and can notice new or changing spots.

Your doctor may provide secure access to your TBP images through a patient portal or app so you can view your skin health plan and upcoming reviews.

If you notice new changes between appointments, contact the clinic straight away — early review is important.

FAQs

  •  Keep your skin moisturised — avoid dryness on the day of imaging.
  • If shaving or waxing, do so several days in advance so any irritation has time to settle.
  • Remove make-up, nail polish, jewellery, and self-tanner before your appointment.
  • Tie up long hair so your scalp and neck are visible.
  •  You’ll be photographed in a private room; let the technician know if you have moles under underwear or on your scalp that need checking.

The photography itself usually takes less than 15 minutes, but allow time for check-in and a brief clinical review.

No — TBP is non-invasive photography. Any further procedures (dermoscopy, biopsy, removal) would be discussed with you and performed only if clinically necessary.

Yes. All images are stored securely in your medical record and handled in accordance with privacy best practices at our clinic. Ask reception if you’d like details about data access.

Frequency is personalised – many patients repeat imaging annually or as advised by their doctor based on risk. Your clinician will recommend the best interval for you.
